Profile

I worked at many companies of different types and sizes, where I ran and worked on projects using Waterfall, Agile, and everything in between. I started my career as a software engineer in a University Spin-Off (Start-Up) on knowledge management.

Since then, I’ve had many different roles, but program management is my passion. It brings all of the disciplines together to deliver amazing outcomes for the customers and equally amazing results for the business. For me, this is mostly communication bringing worlds together and ensure all have the same understanding about the topic, the decision, and the implications.

So, I also love to travel and have lived in several different countries, amongst them the USA, Australia, Russia and some in Europe, where I have been an engineer, an architect, a project manager a consultant and a program director.

I’ve done several large-scale programs and I’ve lead multiple organisational transformations, but at the end I love it when all fits together. It’s not about big names or the size of projects, it’s about becoming better at what I do.

Projects

This is a small selection of my last projects.

Premiere / Sky / APS (Munich)

Main objective: re-secure pay-tv services after security breach (aka smartcard hack).

In the role of a delivery manager, I assured the on time deployment, testing and acceptance of the new headend system as well as the (mass-)production and delivery of new smartcards. Once the security breach was secured and services switched to the Nagravision headend, I fully took over the account responsibility.

This included the APS (Astra Platform Services) account, responsible for SKY’s satellite play-out. Together with internal- and customer architects, we initiated a new security concept enabling long-term pre-payed smartcard services. This lead to the most significant up-selling within the Nagra-Group and resulted in the now well know service „HD+“. In the role of the program manager, I defined, planned, and rolled out this service making it one of the most profitable programs in Nagra.

Mostelekom (NCS, Moscow)

Main objective: deploy first pay-TV service in Russia

In the field of massive tension between competing interests within Mostelekom and parent company NCS, I managed to close the architecture, deliver the head-end, and deploy the Nagra solution. Once the system passed acceptance, we were also able to upsell our CMS for schedule and meta data.

T-HT (T-Com Croatia, Zagreb)

Main objective: create a reference pay-TV system within Deutsche Telekom Group.

In the role of the program manager I was driving the project from a technical point of view. This included the end-to-end architecture including play-out headend, security infrastructure as well as end consumer devices. By suggesting and getting accepted being the systems integrator for the deployment, I was able to triple the revenue for the group in this project.

In addition, I initiated, defined and rolled-out a test-center for enabling full end-to-end service testing. Such service, based in Madrid, can now be added to other projects as well.

IPTV in Vodafone Global

Main objective: create blueprint content security platform for rollout to multiple global affiliates.

Having a trust- and respectfully relationship with the staff in Vodafone, I was able to increase the footprint for Nagra in the IPTV ecosystem significantly. In addition, I could help the customer in the management of other vendors and partners.

In an agile way of working together with the Vodafone architecture team as well as the other vendors, I managed the specification and requirements management.

With a strong network across the different project teams, I was able to identify risk early and manage issues quickly, keeping the impact as low as possible.

SAFe introduction in OpenTV (Sydney)

Main objective: Coaching, adapting and improving the SAFe program methodology in the group.

Spending nine months at acquired OpenTV (onside), I helped local program managers adapting to the Nagra SAFe methodology to better integrate into the overall way of doing things in Nagra.

Such change in methodology also required significant work on the customer side. By shadowing our program managers, I was able to not only cut waste in documentation but also free up time for more customer relationship management across the program managers. This helped in particular securing an extension of the Foxtel account in Sydney.
